RAFA WANTS THIRD
Tottenham midfielder Rafael van der Vaart has said that he is now extremely confident of finishing ahead of Arsenal in the third position, which will guarantee Tottenham the ability to go straight into the group stages of the Champions League. On the other hand, finishing in the fourth position will only allow a club to play in the play-offs, which will determine the ability to take part in the group stages. Further, Chelsea are in the Champions League final and if they win the competition, then the fourth placed team will miss out. Hence, Tottenham are aiming for the third position according to Rafael van der Vaart.
Even though the Dutchman has not been as impressive as in his first season, he still has a key role to play in the Tottenham first team. He was once again impressive in the match against Bolton. Tottenham won the match 4-1. They saw Arsenal lose two points in the match against Norwich on Saturday. The 3-3 draw for Arsenal now means that finishing in the third position is out of their hands because of Tottenham win their last two matches against Aston Villa and West Brom, then they will finish in the third position.
“Anything is possible. There are two games to go, but it feels like there is still a long way to go. We just have to concentrate on what we have to do at Villa. When we win it is easy and everyone says you’re great, but when you lose, we have to look in the mirror and be critical of ourselves. I had a few games that were really bad and you can’t help the team then. I am happy everything has changed now,” said van der Vaart ahead of the match with Aston Villa, who are fighting relegation.
